2 to 3 days is ideal to explore the highlights without rushing. It allows time for boat rides, cave hikes, and countryside cycling. If you’re short on time, a well-planned day trip from Hanoi can still be rewarding.

• Tam Coc or Trang An?

Both are scenic, but offer different vibes. Tam Coc is more laid-back and local, often less crowded early in the day. Trang An offers grander cave systems and a longer boat route. If possible, experience both!

Note: There are some complaints that boat rowers in Tam Coc can be pushy and demand tips if you’re a foreigner. If you experience this, try to be firm and insist on saying no.

• Can I do Ninh Binh as a day trip from Hanoi?

• ATM’s and money exchange?

Yes. ATMs are available in Ninh Binh City and main tourist areas like Tam Coc. Plus, there is an ATM in front of the Ninh Binh Hidden Charm Hotel & Resort. In Trang An, there is also an ATM at the boat dock, just a few minutes’ walk away from the starting point of the boat ride.

Money exchange is best done in Hanoi or at major banks in the city center. Always carry some cash, especially when visiting rural spots.
